Mohegan Sun Arena has set its first public concert since the winter of 2020 for July 18.
The 10,000-seat Uncasville venue will restart its schedule with soft rock band Air Supply, according to the arena’s management, with acts such as Toby Keith, Harry Styles, The Doobie Brothers and the Dave Matthews Band making appearances in the following weeks and months.
"We have been preparing for this day for a long time and we believe that being open this past year operationally makes us more than ready to safely deliver the memorable entertainment experiences that we have become known for," said Tom Cantone, president of sports and entertainment for Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment.
Mohegan Sun reopened to the public in June 2020 with stepped up safety measures and restrictions on large gatherings. Those rules have been eased over the last several weeks as more Connecticut residents get vaccinated against COVID-19, allowing certain event spaces and services to reopen.
The arena is currently open at reduced capacity, hosting private shows and Connecticut Sun games. Occupancy limits will remain in place until July 29, when country music group Lady A, formerly known as Lady Antebellum, begins its national tour at the facility, according to MGE officials.
Under the terms of a deal announced last month, Mohegan Sun Arena will host the Miss America pageant for the next three years, including the competition’s official centennial in December. The venue has also secured commitments from three major headliners — Justin Bieber, The Weeknd and Brad Paisley — for shows in 2022.
