Architect W. J. Patrick Curley has joined Fletcher-Thompson as principal of the firm’s college and university practice group. Curley brings 20 years of experience in projects range from campus master plans to renovation, addition and new construction projects for residence halls, student life centers, sports and recreation facilities, theaters and libraries. He has been involved in Kean University’s New Jersey Center for Science, Technology and Mathematics Education, and for Nassau Community College’s Life Sciences facility. Fletcher Thompson is a regional architecture, engineering and interior design firm based in Shelton with multiple office locations on the east coast.

Hartford Stage has named Darko Tresnjak as the Tony Award-winning theatre’s new artistic director, succeeding Michael Wilson. Tresnjak has served as artistic director of the Old Globe Shakespeare Festival in San Diego from 2004-2009. His work in the New England area has been seen at such companies such as the Huntington Theatre, Goodspeed Musicals, Long Wharf Theatre, Westport County Playhouse and Williamstown Theatre Festival. Tresnjak is currently directing and designing the set for Titus Andronicus at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada. His production of The Merchant of Venice, featuring F. Murray Abraham as Shylock, just completed a national tour. Tresnjak assumes the post in July and his production of Bell, Book and Candle is part of Hartford Stage’s previously announced program fo 2011-2012. He will select the final play of next season, which will be announced this fall.

Barrie Deschaine has been tapped to head KBE Building Corp.’s retail construction business development efforts. Deschaine was previously assistant to the president and CEO of KBE and also helped with public relations activities. As business development manager for retail, she will be responsible for the Northeast region and will work out of the firm’s headquarters in Farmington. KBE provides design-build, construction management and general contracting services. It also has an office in Columbia, Md.

Anthony (Tony) Gronski has been named executive director of YMCA Camp Woodstock, a full service 120 -acre resident camp and conference center and a branch of the YMCA of Greater Hartford. Gronski began his tenure at Woodstock in 2005 as camp director. Prior to joining the staff at Camp Woodstock, Gronski served YMCA’s in New Jersey, Tennessee and Arkansas

Donald Neel has joined CIL as vice president of administration and finance. In this role, he is responsible for the nonprofit agency’s finances, corporate affairs, IT, marketing/public relations, human resources and the AccesSolutions program. Neel has held senior leadership positions with Community Renewal Team Inc. and with several Connecticut public school systems. He is a former president of the Connecticut Association of School Business Officials. CIL is a non-profit developer of community residences for low and moderate income people with disabilities, affordable housing, and program and administrative facilities for other non-profits.

Karen M. Kucher has been appointed services director for Chrysalis Center Inc. She will oversee more than 285 units of supportive housing managed by the nonprofit agency. Kucher brings more than 20 years of experience in social services, most recently as director of Windham House in Willimantic, a supportive housing property operated by Common Ground.

Shawn Briggs will join the New England office of Burns & McDonnell as a project manager in the energy division. Briggs’ focus will be on new generation of energy which includes thermal generation, transmission and distribution, as well as nuclear generation projects. Most recently, Briggs was a project manager with The AES Corp. of Arlington, Virginia where he was responsible for the development of wind energy projects. He’ll join 125 employees in Burns & McDonnell’s Wallingford office. Burns & McDonnell, founded in 1898, provides engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting services. It employs more than 3,000 in 20 offices throughout the United States.

Special Olympics Connecticut has hired Tony Terzi as director of corporate relations. Terzi comes to Special Olympics Connecticut after an award-winning, 20-year career as a television and radio sportscaster. He has spent the past six years as sales manager at Diversified Building Services. He has worked for ESPN Radio, Fox Connecticut, Patrick Media Productions, NBC Connecticut, and KC-101.

James H. Gatling, president and CEO of New Opportunities Inc. in Waterbury, has been named chairman of the board at the Waterbury Regional Chamber. In 2008, he was awarded the Malcolm Baldrige Leadership Award by the Waterbury Regional Chamber and last year was named one of the 100 Most Influential Blacks in Connecticut by the Connecticut Conference of the NAACP. Since 1979, Gatling has served as the president and CEO of New Opportunities, a community action agency that serves the Waterbury, Meriden and Torrington. The agency operates a large number of social programs including Head Start, Day Care, School Readiness, energy assistance, weatherization, housing and various self sufficiency instructional programs. He has served as first vice chairman of the Waterbury Regional Chamber ‘s board of directors; president of the Connecticut Community Action Association and a board member of Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury Development Corp. and the state Association of Human Services. The chamber represents over 1,100 businesses in the Greater Waterbury region including Beacon Falls, Bethlehem, Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oakville, Oxford, Prospect, Southbury, Thomaston, Waterbury, Watertown, Wolcott, and Woodbury.

Cathy Zalaski has been appointed executive assistant at the Greater Southington Chamber of Commerce. Zalaski has been with the chamber since 2006.
