As New Britain continues to expand development in its downtown, residents began this past weekend moving into “The Prohibition,” a new nine-unit luxury apartment development.
The multimillion-dollar redevelopment, the brainchild of Newington-based developer Dan Czyewski of Exclusive Development LLC, will also have a bar with a tapas menu in the ground level retail space that is scheduled for occupancy in March.
Mayor Erin Stewart, who last week toured the renovated property at 67-69 Arch St., said “projects like this one will only add to the vibrancy of Arch Street and will help this neighborhood thrive well into the future. … This project is an important step in the city’s efforts to expand the development we’ve seen in downtown to other neighborhoods throughout the city.”
The Prohibition is a 7,248-square-foot building made up of seven studios, a one-bedroom apartment and a two-bedroom apartment. City officials said the units are all market rate and will range from $1,450 a month to $2,650 a month.
Stewart said the work being done on The Prohibition coincides with the beginning stages of a significant renovation to the entire Arch Street corridor downtown. City officials said that within the next few months, New Britain will begin $2 million worth of complete streets work on Arch Street in an effort to make the major thoroughfare safe, more pedestrian friendly and more aesthetically pleasing.
