New Haven gets new economic development chief

HBJ New Haven City Hall

The Economic Development Corporation of New Haven and REX Development have a new joint CEO.

Michael Harris will take up the position effective May 1, 2025.

REX is the organization responsible for maintaining the roadmap guiding strategic growth and investment in the region, the South Central Connecticut Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy or CEDS.

Harris succeeds longtime CEO Ginny Kozlowski, who is retiring.

He was most recently director of entrepreneurial ecosystems at CTNext, a formerly independent quasi-public agency charged with spurring innovation and entrepreneurship. CTNext was merged into the state Department of Economic and Community Development last year.

Harris has also served as head of the New Haven Innovation Collaborative.

The corporation says he will shepherd its city-focused initiatives, aligning New Haven’s development priorities with broader regional goals.

Harris will continue to support Visit New Haven, the tourism initiative under REX Development that promotes the area as a destination for visitors, students, businesses, and residents.

“Now is a critical moment for collaboration to navigate turbulent national changes and harness the unique strengths of New Haven’s growing economy,” Harris said. “I look forward to working with both our longtime and new partners to build initiatives fostering vibrant businesses, quality jobs, and pathways to financial wellbeing for the region’s residents.”
