New Haven office building sold for single-family conversion

Costar 400 Orange St., New Haven

A historic building in downtown New Haven that has been used as an office building has been sold for more than $1 million and will be converted back into a residential home.

William Clendenen and David Rosen, attorneys who owned the building for more than 30 years, sold the property at 400 Orange St., for $1.12 million in a July 16 deal, to new owners who will use the building as a single-family home.

The buyer was not identified and land records weren’t updated reflecting the sale.

The sellers were represented by Stephen Press of commercial real estate firm Press Cuozzo.

The three-story building has 4,775 square feet of space set on nearly a third of an acre and has 15 off-street parking spaces.

Constructed in 1857, the building has “exceptional details with architectural elements representative of historic New Haven with the charm and function of a modern office building,” Press said.

The property offers immediate access to the downtown central business district, Yale University, courthouses, and interstates 91 and 95.
