An incubator for fledgling medical device and health technology companies will officially open tomorrow in a 6,300-square-foot space just off the New Haven Green.

City and state officials will cut the ribbon on HealthHavenHub, also known as “the HUB,” during a 10 a.m. ceremony at 195 Church St.

Health tech entrepreneur Sri Muthu and his venture capital fund, Health Venture Labs, is launching the incubator with Bridge Innovations and Origami Innovations.

It is one of New Haven's first projects under the state's new Innovation Places program, created to help cities become magnets for talent and high-growth companies.

"There is a pent-up demand for this," Muthu told New Haven Biz last March.

The goal, he explained, is to create a pipeline for the development of new ideas and products that will eventually yield successful companies and jobs.

Selected companies will receive workspace, funding and technical and professional expertise.

The Elm City Innovation Collaborative, which received a $2 million state grant this year through the Innovation Places program, has contributed $100,000 to partially underwrite the endeavor.
