New London is the third most affordable beach town in the United States, according to Realtor.com.
In a state where the median home price is about 20% more expensive than the rest of the country, New London stands out for its affordability, the website said.
The median price of a home within 1 mile of a beach was $257,000, according to the study. The median price per square foot within 1 mile of a beach was $175.
New London has a large public beach, Ocean Beach Park, on Long Island Sound. The beach features a boardwalk along with entertainment, including concerts, free movies and fireworks.
A condo on the water just south of Green Harbor Beach goes for about $170,000, according to the study. A four-bedroom home near Ocean Beach costs under $300,000.
New London is the only New England town on the list.
The No. 1 town was Gulport, Mississippi, which is on the Gulf of Mexico, and has a median price per square foot within 1 mile of a beach of $144.
Other towns in the top five are Newport News, Virginia; Grand Isle, Louisiana and Corpus Christi, Texas. Atlantic City was No. 6.
