Florida manufacturing company HEICO Corp., in August, announced its purchase of two divisions of South Windsor-based defense manufacturer Capewell Aerial Systems.
About four months later, in December, HEICO followed up with a nearly $4.2 million purchase of Capewell's headquarters.
A HEICO-linked limited liability company, in a deed recorded Dec. 16, bought a 53-year-old, 46,342-square-foot light industrial building on 4.5 acres at 105 Nutmeg Road South. The property hosts Capewell’s headquarters.
The seller, a limited liability company tied to Scottsdale, Arizona-based real estate investment trust Store Capital, paid $3.12 million for the property in 2019.
Capewell, according to its website, makes parachutes, descent platforms and other equipment used for airborne and quick release drops of personnel and equipment for the U.S. and allied military agencies. It also makes emergency descent devices for cargo and wide-body aircraft.
HEICO, in August, announced its flight support group had acquired the aerial delivery and descent devices divisions of South Windsor-based Capewell Aerial Systems from Argosy Private Equity, of Wayne, Pennsylvania. The transaction costs were undisclosed.
Argosy retained Capewell’s “survivability” division under its Aerial Machine & Tool Corp. brand, according to the announcement.
HEICO is focused on the design, manufacture, sale and servicing of niche products for aviation, space, defense, medical, telecommunications and electronics industries. The company said its customers include the majority of airlines and overhaul shops worldwide, along with "numerous" defense and space contractors and military agencies, in addition to medical, telecommunications and electronics equipment manufacturers.
Capewell declined comment Thursday. Attempts to reach a HEICO representative were not immediately successful.
