Bloomfield-based PDS Engineering will build a new multi-building trucking facility in East Windsor for the Penske rental commercial truck company.
PDS President Bill Jodice said construction started last week on phase one of the multimillion-dollar project, which includes a 40,000-square-foot building to be used primarily for mechanical and maintenance work on Penske’s fleet of trucks, along with truck parking.
A second, smaller building, around 16,000 square feet, will be built during phase two, also with maintenance and repair facilities, along with office space.
The new facility sits on 18 acres of vacant farm land at 9 Craftsman Road and 74 Newberry Road that Penske purchased four years ago, anticipating company growth and the need for the new space.
Jodice said this parcel is ideal for the company’s expansion plans since it’s under a mile to Interstate 91, with easy access to Hartford, Massachusetts and other highways in Connecticut.
The Reading, Pennsylvania commercial truck rental company has more than 2,500 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. Penske recently opened new leasing facilities in New Jersey, Florida, California and Washington, and announced a new online reservations system for customers launched earlier this month.
