The owners of the historic Rocky Hill Railroad station, recently renovated for use as a restaurant, now plan to convert the building into two upscale residential units.
J&D Associates LLC of Glastonbury has invested more than $600,000 into the renovation and reconstruction of the building, at 240 Meadow Road, which was slated to become a small restaurant as part of the town’s Waterfront District redevelopment.
The application states that the onset of the pandemic and subsequent lack of progress on the waterfront area/Foundry mixed-use development concept “have caused the plan for a restaurant to become impossible to carry to a successful conclusion,” the application reads.
Owners are now proposing plans to the Planning and Zoning Commission to convert the rail station into two residential units, both with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, one at 1,500 square feet and the other at 1,300 square feet.
The plan is in accordance with the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development, and the historic integrity of the train station building will be preserved, the application said.
The plans will go before the commission at a public hearing tonight.
