New Jersey global technology services provider Diversified said it is acquiring HB Communications, a 65-year-old family-owned audio-visual integration firm based in North Haven.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In a statement announcing the buyout this week, Diversified said the company wanted to expand its presence in the Northeast, where it has been growing organically for years.
It cited HB’s “long list of high-profile clients in both higher education and corporate enterprise.” The company provides digital signage and other A-V technology services to businesses and organizations.
Its customers have included the College of William and Mary, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the University of New Haven, where HB served as technical advisor for the school’s new broadcast television studio. It also designed an audio-visual overhaul for the Boston Celtics’ Training Center, according to HB’s website.
World War II vet and U.S. Air Force POW Mackey Barron founded HB in 1946 as HB Motion Picture Service, New Haven Biz reported in a 2018 profile. The company said at the time that it had 400 employees and additional locations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Jersey.
“Since we share a common mission centered on connecting people and organizations by empowering communications worldwide, joining Diversified offers a host of exciting new opportunities for our team,” said HB CEO Dana Barron in a statement.
Diversified provides companies with a range of technology services, including delivering “smart” meeting rooms, digital signage, information technology and electronic security, according to its website. It has more than 2,000 employees in 50 locations worldwide.
