Over 650 walkers attended Easter Seals Capital Region & Eastern Connecticut's 12th Annual Walk With Me in Mystic. The event raised $60,000 to support Easter Seals. Easter Seals Capital Region & Eastern Connecticut is an affiliate of Easter Seals Inc., a nonprofit provider of services for individuals with physical and mental disabilities.

The Farmington Bank Community Foundation awarded a $2,500 grant to Visiting Nurse & Health Services of Connecticut Inc. to provide support for their Telehealth program. The program will assist the medical needs of low income and vulnerable patients by providing clinical services remotely, at no cost to the patient. Telehealth also gets patients to take care of themselves at the highest possible level and in their own home.

The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain has awarded more than $300,000 in grants as part of its first funding wave of 2014.

The grant funding supports nonprofit programs and organizations serving the Foundation's four target communities of Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington.

Two more rounds of grants are scheduled to take place throughout the course of the year.

Dime Bank Foundation awarded a $1,500 grant to the Heavy Hitters Sports and Mentoring Program for various athletic programs offered to at-risk youth and young adults from New London and surrounding towns. Heavy Hitters USA is a nonprofit that utilizes athleticism to promote constructive lifestyle choices and overcome barriers facing today's youth and young adults.

Branford's Francis Walsh Intermediate School and Westbrook Middle School were selected to receive $3,500 in TangerKIDS grants from the Tanger Outlets of Westbrook. The TangerKIDS Grants program is designed to assist schools in Tanger Outlets primary markets by providing grants for special projects, needed programs or equipment.
