Norwalk-based Xerox announced that it will reduce its global workforce by 15% – or about 3,450 employees – as part of a major reorganization.

The company, which sells print and digital document products, said the reductions will occur this quarter across “all levels and areas.”

Xerox has 250 employees in Connecticut, including 90 at its Norwalk headquarters, a spokesman said. It has about 23,000 employees worldwide.

The reduction is part of a new operating model the company has deployed, led by a newly appointed executive team.

Xerox called the restructuring a "reinvention" that will simplify core products to align with customers’ needs, drive enterprise-wide efficiency and scalability, and create greater organizational focus on Xerox’s emerging digital and IT services.

A spokesman said the company is unable to say how many Connecticut employees will be affected.

“The decision to reduce our global workforce was a difficult but necessary step toward establishing long-term viability for Xerox,” the company said in a statement.
