Norwalk power supplier lands Illinois contract

Norwalk retail electricity supplier Verde Energy scored a contract to provide power to the city of Evanston, Ill. starting in August.

In addition to supplying electricity, Verde will install a clean energy storage system in an Evanston's municipal building, replacing traditional air conditioners so the building can be cooled when power prices are cheapest.

As an electric supplier, Verde operates in deregulated states, including Connecticut, where ratepayers can choose a retail supplier for their power generation, instead of the local utility.

Verde has 70,000 customers in 14 municipalities throughout the country. Part of the agreement with Evanston gives the city's small businesses and residents access to Verde's energy use monitoring tools.
