Retail chain Ocean State Job Lot has purchased Elm Plaza at 95 Elm St. and will relocate its existing Enfield store from 25 Hazard Ave. to the former Best Buy space.

The 148,334-square-foot Elm Plaza includes a Kohl’s and additional tenants, with the new Ocean State Job Lot store set to occupy 35,199 square feet in the plaza. The Ocean State Job Lot in Enfield Commons occupied 23,042 square feet of space and opened in March 1999.

The Best Buy store closed last March.

“We are so pleased to announce the purchase of Elm Plaza and the relocation of our Enfield store,” said Paul Cox, director of store operations for Ocean State Job Lot. “Throughout the pandemic, we have been committed to expanding our footprint and breathing life into dormant properties throughout the Northeast, and we look forward to bringing an improved, upgraded shopping experience to the Enfield community later this year.”

The plaza is across the street from the largely vacant Enfield Square mall.

Ocean State Job Lot will be hiring for additional positions to support the larger location, the company said. Positions include store leadership, supervisory, full-time, and part-time positions. The company offers part-time and full-time benefits, a 30% associate store discount, and a cash bonus referral program.

Meanwhile, AAA is planning to build an office at the 25 Hazard Ave. plaza Ocean State Job lot is leaving, the Hartford Business Journal reports.

According to documents filed with the Enfield Planning and Zoning Commission, the 10,197-square-foot facility in the Enfield Commons shopping center would include a customer center and auto service center.

The structure would be built to the east of the existing shopping center, which houses tenants including Aldi, Old Navy, Marshalls, and Michaels.

The commission has already signed off on a special use permit for the project but now needs to review a revised site plan application that would divide site improvement work into two phases, one done by a AAA contractor and the other carried out by the shopping center’s owner, Paramount Realty Services.

The revised site plan does not propose any changes to the building itself.

AAA has an office at 109 Elm St.
