CT Public Broadcasting pres. inducted into Junior Achievement Hall of Fame

Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network President and CEO Jerry Franklin was inducted into the Junior Achievement Hartford Business Hall of Fame at the organization's 34th annual ceremony and dinner at the Hartford Marriott Downtown.

Franklin was honored for setting an example of success in business and the community through his leadership at CPTV and WNPR.

Shipman & Goodwin partner to lead Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity

Shipman & Goodwin partner Gabriel Jiran has been elected to serve as vice president/president-elect of the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity. Jiran served on LCD's board of directors and has participated in many of its programs.

The organization, which Shipman & Goodwin has been involved in since its inception in 2003, works to increase the recruitment, retention and advancement of lawyers of color and women.

MCC professor receives 2014 Educational Excellence, Distinguished Service Award

Francine Rosselli-Navarra, a psychology professor at Manchester Community College, is the recipient of the college's 2014 Educational Excellence and Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes employees whose performance exemplifies excellence in teaching, leadership and administration.

Rosselli-Navarra has published widely on topics focused on the epidemiology and treatment of binge eating disorders; the college experience for students from working class backgrounds; persuasive processing of rational and emotional appeals; the incidence of violent imagery in advertising, and other substantive areas.

Travelers recognized for commitment to diversity

Property and casualty insurer Travelers, which has major operations in Hartford, has been selected as one of DiversityInc magazine's 25 Noteworthy Companies. This is the second consecutive year Travelers has been recognized for its diversity and inclusion efforts, and was selected from more than 1,000 participating companies.

Recognition is based on an annual survey by DiversityInc that measures CEO commitment, human capital, corporate and organizational communications and supplier diversity.

Willow Brook Golf Course receives award from CT PGA

South Windsor's Willow Brook Golf Course has been named the 2014 recipient of the Walter Lowell Public Golf Course Distinguished Service Award by the Connecticut Section PGA, as the model public golf course serving in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.

Willow Brook is an 18-hole, par-60, golf course, featuring a driving range, golf shop and restaurant. It is open to the public.
