Two long-time area businesses, B & G Sports Co. Inc. in Waterbury and ColorGraphix LLC in Oxford, merged in late February.

B & G Sports, which launched in 1988, serves the greater Waterbury region with sports team uniforms and equipment for schools and sports organizations. It also provides the business community with embroidered and silk-screened items for employees and customers.

ColorGraphix LLC, founded in 1987, creates graphic designs, embroidery, screen printing, signs, banners and promotional items, such as T-shirts, jackets, pens and mugs. Its clients include corporations, non-profits, schools, universities, sports teams and event organizers.

The companies declined to disclose financial terms of the deal.

Matt Brunyansky, president of B & G Sports, said the combination provides a geographic advantage for both companies.

“(ColorGraphix) is in an area we wanted to expand into,” Brunyansky said.

Both Brunyansky and Jeff Jones, owner of ColorGraphix, indicated the change will mean increased services for their customers.

“This merger will significantly increase our service offerings, including the addition of trophies and engraved items for ColorGraphix’s customers, plus full lines of athletic equipment,” explained Brunyansky. “B & G Sports customers will have considerably faster and easier access to a full line of promotional items and enhanced graphic services.”

While the two businesses are similar, they each had areas of focus that the other will now benefit from. B & G Sports has been more involved in sports trophies, while ColorGraphix has had more involvement in promotional products, for example.

The two men became acquainted because of COVID-19, when one needed some assistance with embroidery services. They became friends and started talking about the advantages of joining forces, both for geographic expansion and for the ability to each provide new services to their respective customer base.

Brunyansky said the merger brings the resources of both companies together.

“We are now more than ideally-equipped to offer customers of both companies the start-to-finish services of uniforms, equipment, trophies, medals and more,” Brunyansky said.

Both businesses will retain their names and employees.
