P2 Science Inc., a renewable chemistry company which develops plant-based products, has launched a new ingredient with applications for hair care, deodorant and skin care.
The new ingredient, called “Citropol H,” is a bio-derived alternative to silicone ingredients typically used in such products, according to the company.
P2 Science has a manufacturing plant in Naugatuck and a research lab in Woodbridge, and its products are typically used in the flavor, fragrance and cosmetics markets.
Neil Burns, CEO of P2 Science, said the company is confident the new product will be well-received.
“This is our sixth product launch since April and is in direct response to a huge need communicated to us by our customers,” Burns said.
The company recently conducted a demonstration for formulators and brand marketers to show how Citropol H performs in products, including a leave-in hair cream, a natural and film-free deodorant stick and a body cream.
Citropol H is biodegradable and has a lightweight feel when used in personal care products and cosmetics, according to the company.
P2 Science has already begun commercial production of the product at its Naugatuck facility.
The company was co-founded by Paul Anastas, a professor and head of the Yale Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering.
