Icaru offers home-style fast food and regional dishes made upon request, including various chicken, beef and seafood dishes such as pollo a la brasa, a rotisserie chicken served with two side dishes.

The name of the restaurant is inspired by the name of the Peruvian city Ica, where the owners are from. The Diaz brothers came to the U.S. 11 years ago. They moved to the city of New Haven three years ago, and they identified a need here for the homestyle Peruvian cooking they know and love.

“This is a dream coming true,” said Jose Diaz.

The chef has long wanted to introduce people to homemade Peruvian dishes. “We want to welcome you to a small place of Peru in New Haven,” he said.

Icaru is located at 39 Elm St. in downtown New Haven, just an eight minute walk from the New Haven Green.

New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker recalled his time in Peru and walking by the small restaurants in the cities and seeing the rotisserie chickens and french fries on display in the windows.

“There is the real taste of southern Peru and northern Chile right here,” he said about Icaru. “We welcome everyone, no matter where you’re from.”
