Peter Sposito going from bank chief to professor

Retiring Glastonbury banker Peter J. Sposito is going from prowling the banking floor to the classroom as a college professor at Central Connecticut State University.

With just days to go before he retires as CEO of Bankers’ Bank Northeast, Sposito was introduced Wednesday as the American Savings Foundation Endowed Chair in Banking and Finance at the New Britain college’s School of Business.

In his new post, he will provide academic and outreach activities designed to expand and enrich the education and preparation of CCSU’s business students, the school said.

“My retirement goal is to share my banking experiences with the next generation of bankers and in joining CCSU’s School of Business, I have chosen well,” Sposito said in a statement.

Siamack Shojai, the school’s dean, says he is “thrilled” to have someone of Sposito’s caliber join the faculty.

“He brings 45 years of solid practice as a successful, visionary banking professional, and I have no doubt he will provide the kind of knowledge, insight, and leadership that will prove invaluable to both our students and faculty,” Shojai said.

The endowed chair was created in 2003 with a $1 million grant from the American Savings Foundation. Sposito will be the second person to sit as chair.

Sposito earned his bachelor's in finance from Manhattan College and an M.B.A. in marketing from UConn.
