Philip Rigueur is head of sales effectiveness and distribution for Aetna's transformative markets. Rigueur's goal is to revolutionize health care through a joint venture between Aetna and hospitals, providing high-quality health care at affordable prices to consumers and employers.
Under his leadership, Rigueur's business has grown to 600,000 members and $1 billion in revenue. He began his career as a co-founder and managing director of a real estate company. After a successful run, he transitioned to Aetna where he has served in sales and management positions with increasing responsibilities.
What's been your biggest professional accomplishment?
My team and I are devoted to creating partnerships between Aetna and hospital systems. In doing so I have been privileged to lead a team that has created five locally operated health insurance companies that support care models providing excellent medical support while managing costs for the patients in need of care.
How are you involved in the community?
I have served on the board of Planned Parenthood of America. Currently, I'm an acting commissioner of Hartford's Redevelopment Agency. Past board member for Mental Health Association of CT, and Our Piece of the Pie. And most mornings I spend at the local YMCA.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love spending time with my family, particularly my two children — Austin, age 5 and Audrey, age 3.
What do you hope Greater Hartford will be like in 10 years?
Greater Hartford is poised to be a vibrant work and social environment for residents of all ages. It's encouraging to see new development in the city including Front Street, the area around Bushnell Park; students in downtown Hartford from UConn, Capital Community and St. Joseph's; and the introduction of the new bike-share program.
Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty:
• I began my career at Aetna in a sales and management development program and I have continued to be recognized and rewarded for my job accomplishments. I was most recently given responsibility to grow a new venture business.
• I serve on important and diverse boards including the Mental Health Association of CT and was appointed by Hartford's mayor to the Hartford Redevelopment Agency.
• I support the urban community by serving as an active board member of Northside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance (NINA) and spending time at the Wilson Gray YMCA.
• Named by Savoy Magazine as one of 2018's Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America.
