The John B. Pierce Laboratory, a nonprofit, independent research institute affiliated with Yale University, recently named a new laboratory director and the first female president of its board of directors.
Dr. John Geibel, who has served on the laboratory’s board, is its new director. Geibel is professor emeritus of surgery and cellular and molecular physiology at Yale University School of Medicine.
Margaret Penny Mason, who has served on the board for several years, is its new president. Mason, an attorney, has worked for the firm Barclay Damon for years, handling matters involving complex litigation, medical-malpractice defense and employment law.

Board Director Anthony P. Scillia said both bring their “years of professional excellence” to their new roles at Pierce.
“We are thrilled to welcome our first woman board president,” Scillia said.
The Pierce Laboratory was founded in 1933, and it offers an environment for interaction and collaboration among scientists within the laboratory and in the surrounding Yale community.
