Plainville has partnered with three Home Energy Solution vendors to provide incentives to residents that participate in the energy efficiency program.
HE-Energy Solutions, New England Conservation Services, and Victory Energy Solutions will donate $25 to the Plainville parent teacher organizations for each resident that gets an HES assessment by July 30. Residents that get assessments can choose which of the towns school's PTO receives their donation, and the town is having a competition to see which school gets the most HES sign ups.
The service helps residents save money on their monthly energy bills by providing energy specialists who come to resident's homes to install energy efficient products and perform weatherization services. The cost is $75 for homes heating with electricity or natural gas, $99 for homes heated with fuel oil and propane, and is free for those who meet income eligibility guidelines.
Plainville is also one of 42 towns in the state to sign the Clean Energy Communities Pledge. The pledge commits towns to reduce municipal building energy consumption by 20 percent by 2018, and to purchase 20 percent of their municipal electrical needs from clean, renewable sources by 2018.
