Portly Pig adding downtown Hartford location

The Portly Pig is opening its second location in Hartford, this time on Trumbull Street, as the barbecue restaurant continues to expand its local presence.

The Portly Pig BBQ is taking over two adjacent spaces, totaling 2,625 square feet, at 100 Trumbull St. A Quiznos used to operate at the location.

The Portly Pig was first established in 2018 as a catering operation in Hands On Hartford’s shared-use kitchen. The restaurant was one of the first eateries to open in Parkville Market when the food court opened in 2020.

In the announcement of a new storefront, chef and owner Jonathon Shivick and his partners John Zabel and Dominic DeAngelis said Hartford has a “burgeoning” barbecue scene and downtown redevelopment efforts made them want to expand in the city.

According to the company, the new space aims to offer locally focused dining and drinking experiences featuring meat and produce sourced from New England farms.
