Protein Sciences flu vaccine on the way

Sujata Srinivasan Manon Cox, CEO of Protein Sciences in Meriden.

Meriden’s Protein Sciences Corp. said it expects the first doses of its Flublok influenza vaccine to be available for the start of vaccination season, which typically begins around Thanksgiving.

Protein Sciences received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in January to sell Flublok for use by people ages 18 to 49. It’s working on approvals for use in people 50 and older.

Flublok is a first-of-its-kind eggless vaccine, meaning it's made without a chicken egg or live virus, and can be produced more quickly than traditional vaccine.

The company said recently that it expects to ship 250,000 doses for the upcoming flu season, which is expected to generate millions of dollars in revenue.

FFF Enterprises is the exclusive distributor of Flublok.
