Protein Sciences gets $669K federal grant

Meriden vaccine maker Protein Sciences has received a $669,156 federal grant to support lung cancer treatment, U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty’s office announced.

The company will use the money from the National Cancer Institute and the Small Business Innovation Research program for a collaborative effort with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and Vault Nano Inc.

Using its proprietary baculovirus manufacturing technology, Protein Sciences will manufacture tiny cell-delivery vehicles, known as “recombinant vaults,” to deliver signaling proteins to tumors.
