Wethersfield-based healthcare consulting think-tank Qualidigm said Tuesday that it has agreed to merge with a fellow consulting and services provider in Maine.

Qualidigm and Maine Quality Counts expect to officially merge in Aug. 2019. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the companies said Qualidigm President and CEO Timothy Elwell will lead the combined organization, and that Maine Quality Counts will use Qualidigm branding once the merger is complete.

The two companies have provided healthcare consulting, technical assistance and quality improvement services to government and private-sector clients for more than 50 years combined.

For example, Qualidigm is a partner on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ “Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization” contract in New England, while Maine Quality Counts leads the Northern New England Practice Transformation Network, through which it helps prepare more than 2,000 New England clinicians to participate in a population-based payment model.

“This merger consolidates both organizations’ well-respected experience and qualifications, with the goal of providing comprehensive, coordinated, quality improvement services that support patients and healthcare providers throughout New England and the United States,” Elwell said in a statement Tuesday.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Qualidigm leads CMS' QIN-QIO contract in New England. It is a partner on the contract.
