Quinnipiac University plans to introduce a new program in talent management for the fall semester.

School officials said the new bachelor of science degree will offer three tracks designed to teach students about the business aspects of sports, e-sports or entertainment. The program is being offered in conjunction with the university’s School of Management, the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Communications.

“This program has been carefully designed to provide students with the skill sets necessary for success in sports, eSports and entertainment management roles in the 21st century,” said Tuvana Rua, an associate professor of management and the talent management program’s director. “The program is unique as it prepares students for careers in these fields with hands-on experiences thanks to internships and other experiential learning opportunities on campus through Quinnipiac’s Division I athletic teams, the eSports Club and its events and competitions, as well as other clubs and outlets such as student-run TV shows, podcasts and a public relations firm through the School of Communications.”

There will also be an opportunity for students to acquire an accelerated dual degree in talent management and law, preparing graduates to work as agents who can legally represent talent in contract negotiations, Rua added.

The new program would bring Quinnipiac in line with other higher education institutions now offering courses in the same fields.

The explosive growth of e-sports as entertainment and its acceptance as a possible career path has prompted numerous colleges and universities, including some in Connecticut, to roll out their own esports programs in recent years.

Similarly, the advent of the influencer economy, fueled by platforms such as TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, has created new demand and opportunities for agents and talent representatives.
