Brad Oneglia directly oversees the operation of eight asphalt plants located throughout western Connecticut, while also handling asphalt paving sales and project management duties on projects ranging from $25,000 to $3 million-plus. He works directly with contractors, developers, facility managers and public works departments to service their asphalt and paving needs.

What's been the biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?

I alone cannot take credit for any singular accomplishment in my career. While I am part of a fourth-generation of family ownership at O&G, anything accomplished by either myself, or by those whose “name is on the door,” would not be possible without the hundreds of men and women who come to work with us every day. What I am most proud of is being part of such a special group and helping to continue the success of those who came before us.

How are you involved in the community?

I currently serve on the board of directors for Kids Play Children's Museum in Torrington. It has been a wonderful addition to the city and is a place to take your family to spend time learning and playing in a fantastic environment.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. Whether it is a visit to a local park in West Hartford, or playing at home with my son, I look forward to that time. I also enjoy exercising and reading to keep my body and mind in the best shape.

Give an example of a people-skills habit you adhere to in your work and daily life that you feel has helped you succeed.

Always try to look at any situation from the viewpoint of those involved. I may not always have the right answer or thought process, and someone else may have a better solution. Unless you are open to other viewpoints, you might miss critical information or ideas.

What do you hope Greater Hartford will be like in 10 years?

The Greater Hartford area, and Connecticut in general, has a lot to offer. But unless there are good employment opportunities, that won't matter. The focus should be on attracting and retaining businesses to the area.

Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty:

• While under my direction, O&G has greatly increased its use of sustainable practices within our asphalt division, focusing on ways to reduce our impact on the environment.

• Currently sit as president of the Connecticut Asphalt & Aggregates Producers Association.

• Board of directors member at Kids Play Children's Museum.

• Industry advisory board member at CCSU's construction management program.

Fun Fact

In 2008, I completed a rock climb of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, which was close to 3,000 vertical feet.
