Riverfront Recapture has hired a landscape architecture and design firm to develop a master plan for a new riverfront park, regional trail extension and commercial development on the Hartford-Windsor line.
Riverfront Recapture, a nonprofit organization that manages four connected parks along 3.5 miles of the Connecticut River, has selected Hargreaves Jones to create plans for its new park, which is on 60 acres of riverfront land it recently acquired.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have a firm with Hargreaves Jones’ experience as our partner in this endeavor,” said Michael Zaleski, president and CEO of Riverfront Recapture. “Their team will help us transform this previously inaccessible land into a thriving community asset with far-reaching benefits: fostering environmental stewardship, uniting communities, driving economic growth and furthering our mission to connect people with the Connecticut River.”
The new park will extend Riverfront Recapture’s existing park system northward, resulting in five connected parks along 7 miles of the Connecticut River.
Hargreaves Jones has designed projects across the globe, including Crissy Field on the San Francisco Bay, Louisville Waterfront Park on the Ohio River, Chattanooga 21st Century & Renaissance Park on the Tennessee River and London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on the River Lea.
The firm’s work has received more than 100 national and international awards.
Riverfront Recapture will kick off its new initiative with a Winter Site Walk on Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. Click here for more information.
