Robinson+Cole is opening an office in Washington, D.C. with an intellectual property team, including four new attorneys and a patent agent.
The office will be led by partner William E. Bradley, along with attorneys Kyle G. Hepner, David W. Leibovitch and Jennifer Driscoll, along with Daniel J. Lass as a patent agent.
The new office is at 1201 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, in the city’s bustling Penn Quarter neighborhood.
The opening is part of Robinson+Cole’s expansion of its intellectual property practice in patent litigation and patent prosecution, the firm said.
“Continuing to enhance our intellectual property and business litigation practices is another step in the execution of our strategic plan, which focused on expanding in major commercial centers,” said Rhonda J. Tobin, managing partner of Robinson+Cole.
The announcement follows Robinson+Cole’s addition, in October, of a four-person team to its Intellectual Property and Technology Group, led by partner John H. Mutchler in Hartford.
Robinson+Cole has been expanding, opening offices in Wilmington, Delaware and Philadelphia in 2019, including the addition of a national bankruptcy practice.
Tobin said the firm will continue to look for opportunities to grow.
“We have a strong track record of integrating lateral attorneys into our firm so they feel like they belong and have the support they need to flourish,” he said. “Part of our success as a firm for 177 years is ensuring that our existing attorneys and laterals find a home where they can grow their practices alongside other attorneys all pulling in the same direction.”
The new partner, Bradley, has litigation and prosecution experience and has litigated patents and other intellectual property rights for more than 20 years. He has been involved in more than 75 intellectual property lawsuits in federal and state courts, courts of appeal and before the International Trade Commission. Before joining Robinson+Cole, he was a partner at Michael Best & Friedrich in Washington, D.C.
Hepner also joins Robinson+Cole from Michael Best & Friedrich and represents clients in intellectual property, with a focus on patent litigation, Patent Trial and Appeal Board proceedings, and the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international utility and design patent applications.
Leibovitch focuses on the prosecution of utility and design patent applications, freedom-to-operate and invalidity opinions, post-grant proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and District Court patent litigation. Before joining Robinson+Cole, he was counsel at Pittsburgh-based Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney.
Driscoll, an antitrust attorney for more than 15 years, will work in the firm’s New York City and Washington D.C. offices. She has experience at international law firms, including stints in New York, Paris and London. She handles antitrust litigation for national and international companies, including in Japan and Taiwan.
Lass, the patent agent, has a degree in mechanical engineering and previously worked at Arlington, Virginia-based Nixon & Vanderhye, where he drafted and prosecuted applications related to medical devices. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Earlier this year, Robinson+Cole announced the relocation of its Hartford office at 280 Trumbull St. to One State Street, also known as the Hartford Steam Boiler Building. The move is slated for September 2023.
