Glastonbury lender Rockville Bank has promoted Mark Kucia to chief credit officer and hired former Santander executive Dave Paulson as head of its wholesale banking division, it announced.

The personnel moves come as Rockville works through a proposed merger with United Bank of West Springfield, Mass.

Kucia, who was formerly head of commercial banking, will retain his second title of executive vice president. During his time at Rockville, he has built the bank’s commercial loan business from $350 million to nearly $1.1 billion and more than doubled the size of the bank’s commercial staff.

Scott Bechtle will continue as chief risk officer for the bank and its holding company.

Paulson, who most recently was managing director and commercial banking executive vice president at Santander, will be Rockville’s executive vice president and head of wholesale banking.

Correction: The original version of this story incorrectly stated that Mark Kucia would shed his second title of executive vice president.
