Sacred Heart Univ. announces new finance VP, communications pro

Sacred Heart University in Fairfield recently promoted Peter Ward of Shelton to vice president for finance.

Ward will serve as a member of the Catholic university’s leadership team, working closely with the president, provost and senior leaders. He will provide strategic and operational direction to ensure the university’s long-term financial stability. He also will manage the finance division and take responsibility for all financial and compliance reporting.

Ward is a certified public accountant. He joined the university in September 2008 as a controller and was promoted to associate vice president for finance in August 2020.

Since he joined the university, its annual gross revenues have doubled, and net revenues more than tripled, according to an announcement.

Steve Conn has joined Sacred Heart’s athletics department as senior associate athletic director for communications. Conn will oversee all strategic communications, marketing and promotional efforts for the university’s intercollegiate, athletic and spirit teams.
 
Conn, a Woodbridge native, has a lengthy background in sports. For 35 years, Conn rose through the ranks at Yale University’s sports department, serving as associate athletics director and director of sports publicity. 

Avangrid announces appointments to boards of directors 

Orange-based utility company Avangrid announced that María Fátima Báñez García and Camille Joseph Varlack have been appointed to its board of directors.

Donna S. Watson has been appointed to the board of Avangrid Networks, which is Avangrid’s wholly-owned subsidiary that owns and operates eight electric and natural gas utilities.

Company leaders cited the trio’s expertise in key areas, such as public policy, risk management, government relations and operations. 

Báñez is a business consultant and advisor who most recently served as an independent member of the board of directors and audit committee of Iberdrola México.

Varlack is a founding partner and the chief operating officer of Bradford Edwards & Varlack LLP, a civil and commercial litigation firm based in New York City. 

Watson has nearly four decades of management and senior leadership experience in the financial services industry. She most recently served as Bank of America’s national operations executive for the company’s preferred lending business.
