An Aug. 12 deadline is approaching for agricultural cooperatives and similar organizations in Hartford, Litchfield and Tolland Counties eligible for federal economic injury disaster loans, the U.S. Small Business Administration said.
The round of loans is targeted at businesses affected by excessive rain and high winds between Aug. 10 and Oct. 30, 2012, which mainly affected Massachusetts.
"These counties are eligible because they are contiguous to one or more primary counties in Massachusetts,” said Frank Skaggs, director of the SBA’s field operations center in Atlanta. “The Small Business Administration recognizes that disasters do not usually stop at county or state lines. For that reason, counties adjacent to primary counties named in the declaration are included," said Frank Skaggs, director of SBA's Field Operations Center East in Atlanta.
With the exception of aquaculture enterprises, the SBA cannot provide disaster loans to agricultural producers, farmers or ranchers.
Business owners may apply online at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.
Disaster loan information and application forms are available by calling 800-659-2955 or by sending an email to disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.
