A Florida developer is seeking a special permit to build a self-storage complex that would span roughly 110,000-square-feet on a vacant property at 59-69 Douglas St., in Bloomfield’s Copaco Shopping Center area.
Basis Industrial Acquisitions LLC, headquartered in Boca Raton, submitted a zoning application seeking town approvals for the project on June 16. The property is located in an industrial zone.
The 8.7-acre property is owned by Douglas Street Ventures LLC, which previously proposed a 74,520-square-foot warehouse/distribution center, for which it received zoning approvals last year. However, construction never began.
Now, the owner has a contract with Basis Industrial Acquisitions to acquire the property for the newly proposed development.
The Planning and Zoning Commission will consider Basis Industrial Acquisitions’ request for a special permit during its next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday via Zoom.
The new application is for a similar use, but a different design.
The plans show a main one-story building with a footprint of 95,059 square feet, containing both exterior-facing and interior self-storage units. There are three additional buildings with exterior-facing self-storage units, including one that is 3,507 square feet, to the north of the main building, and two other buildings, at 4,724 square feet and 6,233 square feet, to the south.
The project includes proposed parking spaces. The individual units would be a mix of sizes.
