A dwindling social club in New Britain has sold its 10,303-square-foot clubhouse to the owners of a local Mediterranean-Halal restaurant for $590,000.
The Society of St. Jean the Baptiste of New Britain sold its 53-year-old building at 209 Smalley Road to Casablanca Investments, of New Britain in a sale recorded Dec. 9.
The buyer, a limited liability company, lists Rachid Hefnaoui and Abdelhamid Madani as principals.
Madani is also principal of Madani’s Inc., a limited liability company that shares an Allen Street address in New Britain with Madani’s Mediterranean Cuisine.
Attempts to reach Madani and Hefnaoui were not immediately successful.
Jennifer Swerdlick, of Fine and Co. LLC National, brokered the sale.
There were multiple offers on the property, including a tentative sale that didn’t pan out, Swerdlick said. Ultimately, Swerdlick said, the sellers accepted an all-cash offer from buyers who were willing to deal with roof repairs.
Swerdlick said she believes the new owners plan to continue using the property as a function hall.
Swerdlick said there has been growing interest in function halls, sometimes to repurpose as warehouse space. She expects a sale of the former Nuchie’s Esquire Caterers building in Bristol to close by the end of January.
The new owner, Swerdlick said, plans to use the roughly 13,000-square-foot building for warehousing.
Swerdlick is also marketing the former Krystal Gardens Wedding and Banquet Facility, a 9,368-square-foot building on 5.7 acres in Wolcott.
