The South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA) and ClimateHaven, the New Haven-based climate technology incubator, announced Thursday they have formed a partnership to create a water innovation hub.
"Innovation is key to safeguarding our water future," said Larry Bingaman, RWA president and CEO.
The RWA is a not-for-profit water utility and environmental services company that provides water services to nearly 430,000 people in south central Connecticut. It will team with ClimateHaven to develop the hub, which is intended to accelerate the development of “breakthrough technologies addressing key challenges in the water industry and aligned sectors,” it said in a news release.
The increasing effects of climate change, along with new forms of pollution, demand innovative solutions to protect human health, safety and water access, the two organizations said.
The hub will “foster innovation that enhances water quality and access, conservation, infrastructure and sustainability in the Northeast and beyond, they said.
Justine Lee, who was recently named ClimateHaven’s president and CEO, said the partnership with the RWA “will not only catalyze the development of revolutionary water technologies but also create a space where innovation and real-world application meet."
