South Windsor's TicketNetwork announces nearly 150-employee layoff

South Windsor ticket-vending company TicketNetwork plans to temporarily lay off nearly 150 workers, as the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the cancelation of nearly all events to which it sells tickets.

In a statement to HBJ, TicketNetwork said the 142 layoffs, which will begin June 20, are a last ditch effort amid an unforgiving business environment.

"Company leadership took many steps designed to make such action a measure of last resort," the statement said. "However, ongoing government restrictions on public gatherings have left the industry at a near-complete shutdown with an unclear timeline for when events will resume at anything approaching pre-COVID levels."

The letter TicketNetwork on Tuesday sent to state labor officials -- known as a WARN notice -- said workers who will be laid off were notified in writing on June 6. The letter said the company intends for the layoffs to be temporary, but couldn't say with confidence how long they will last.

TicketNetwork Director of Human Resources David Brogan wrote in the letter that the company is hesitant to give an end date for layoffs, because restrictions on gatherings and how long they will last are fluid, and difficult to plan around.
