Stamford-based HUUE to launch dry cannabis vaping 'puck'

Stamford-based cannabis industry company HUUE is planning by the end of the year to launch a line of fresh-pressed herb "pucks" and a handheld vaping device.

HUUE's herb puck product allows users to vaporize and inhale cannabis, which some say is healthier and more efficient than burning it with a lighter, lead investor David Salinas said. But unlike with vape oil, vaporizing dry herb allows cannabis connoisseurs to enjoy the plant's full flavor and terpene profile.

"We believe that the more sophisticated way is to actually use the flower, but there really hasn't been any innovation in the dry flower space."" said Salinas, who also serves as chief growth officer for New Haven-based Digital Surgeons, and founded District New Haven, a $25 million technology and innovation startup ecosystem and real estate development.

Dry flower vaporizers have existed for a long time, but they require users to grind up marijuana buds. HUUE's pucks are already ground, pressed and ready to be inserted in a dry herb vaping device.

Further, the company announced last week that it's partnering with Grenco Science Inc. to launch a hand-held dry herb vaping device alongside the herb puck product. Grenco Science is the Los Angeles-based company behind the G Pen, one of the more successful brands of vape pens.

In 2021's fourth quarter, HUUE will start selling its pucks -- which include a blend for people seeking uplifting effects, one for relaxation and another for recovery from aches and pains -- in a package with Grenco's device at dispensaries in Massachusetts, Salinas said.

Salinas said HUUE is operating as a technology company, and doesn't actually touch cannabis. Rather, they provide equipment necessary to make the marijuana pucks to a Massachusetts cannabis cultivator, which manufactures them.

The company consists of three people right now, and recently completed a "healthy seed round" of fundraising, said Salinas, who declined to specify how much they raised. But the Grenco partnership bodes very well for HUUE's growth prospects, Salinas said, as does interest the company received in Las Vegas earlier this month at MJBizCon, the legal cannabis industry's preeminent annual business conference.

After it initially launches the product in Massachusetts, HUUE is looking to mount a rapid expansion into other legal cannabis states, including Connecticut, which is expected to commence legal adult-use cannabis sales by the end of next year.

"I think the company had the unique innovation in this space where it could be [worth] in the hundreds of millions of dollars," Salinas said, noting that HUUE could also contract with successful cannabis companies to offer their marijuana in the form of HUUE's patented puck. "We can partner with any brand."
