Stamford Health, NYC hospital team on new orthopedics center

Stamford Health and Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) of New York City on Tuesday announced a collaboration to create a center for advanced orthopedic care serving Connecticut and New England.

The center, expected to open late this year, will be known as HSS Orthopedics at Stamford Health and will occupy all 42,000 square feet on the fifth floor of the new Stamford Hospital, according to hospital spokesman Craig Andrews. Stamford Health will adopt HSS best practices across the entire orthopedic service line, and HSS surgeons will provide the inpatient care.

HSS Orthopedics at Stamford Health also will offer outpatient services, beginning later this month, at Stamford Health’s satellite outpatient facility in the city, Tully Health Center. Two operating rooms are being added to Tully, which opened about 10 years ago, to accommodate the HSS orthopedists, Andrews said.

No costs were released for the projects.

HSS has provided pre-, post- and non-surgical care in Connecticut since 2001. The HSS Outpatient Center at Chelsea Piers Connecticut in Stamford will continue to provide those services, as will the neighboring HSS-Stamford Health Sports Rehab facility.

Hartford Healthcare, meanwhile, opened its own orthopedic facility last month, the new $150-million Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital.
