Another Starbucks in Connecticut has voted to unionize, making it the coffee shop chain’s sixth location in the state to join the growing organized labor movement.
Workers at the Starbucks at 212 Spencer St. in Manchester voted 12-5 to join Starbucks Workers United (SWU) on Wednesday, the union announced.
Nationally, Starbucks has more than 500 union-represented stores. SWU and Starbucks have been unable to negotiate a contract so far.
The Starbucks unionization movement began in August 2021 at three stores in Buffalo, New York. Since then, it has expanded across the country in 45 states and the District of Columbia.
Workers say they’re seeking respect, living wages, racial and gender equity, and fair scheduling.
In September, workers at the Starbucks on Litchfield Turnpike in Woodbridge and Dixwell Avenue in Hamden voted to join SWU.
The state has been seeing an uptick in unionization activity since 2021.
There were 272,000 Connecticut workers represented by unions in 2023, the highest number since 2020, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
