The Office of the State Treasurer has named a new assistant treasurer following the retirement of a longtime leader in the office.
Assistant Treasurer for Debt Management Bettina Bronisz will retire effective Aug. 1.
She will be replaced by Kimberly Mooers, who started working in the treasurer’s office last year after serving as executive director of the Rhode Island Health and Educational Building Corp. (RIHEBC), the largest bond issuer in Rhode Island.
Mooers left her role at RIHEBC in late 2023 when the group’s board voted to “terminate her employment relationship,” according to Providence Business News, citing minutes of the meeting. The board did not disclose the reasons for her departure.
Bronisz became an assistant state treasurer last year. Before that, she was the principal debt management specialist. She worked in the treasurer’s office for about 13 years.
In a post on LinkedIn, the Office of the Treasurer described Bronisz as “a legend in public finance and a transformative force in shaping CT’s future through our bonding programs.”
Previously, Bronisz worked in investment banking and was a vice president at Advest Inc., A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. and Ehrlich Bober & Co.
Mooers became an assistant treasurer on June 4, overlapping with Bronisz until her retirement.
“Kim joined the treasurer’s office in June, and she’s been working alongside Bettina to assist with a smooth transition,” Deputy Treasurer Sarah Sanders said. "... We’re thrilled to have Kim’s expertise in this important debt management role.”
Mooers has more than 30 years of experience in public and nonprofit finance and has served as senior vice president at UniBank Fiscal Advisory Services Inc. in Massachusetts and as vice president of infrastructure finance at MassDevelopment, an economic development agency in Massachusetts.
