Summer series kicks off

Contributed Photo The Metropolitan District Commission's Reservoir 6 water treatment facility in Bloomfield is part of its vast waterworks that provides drinking water and waste water services to some 1.5 million thirsty central Connecticut residents.

Today begins our fourth annual summer series, a yearly in-depth examination of key contributors to Connecticut's business environment.

This year's theme is 'How Connecticut Works.' Over the next seven weeks, we'll introduce readers to important but often overlooked services that are vital to the health, safety, and prosperity of Connecticut businesses and residents.

To kick off the series this week, HBJ explores Connecticut's drinking water system, which has the strictest standards of any in the nation (PG. 12–13). In the weeks ahead, we'll examine ambulance services, the logistics network that moves goods across the state, gasoline refinery, inspectors, and the intricate old-world business of the Hartford steam heating system. Questions, comments, suggestions? All are welcome at gbordonaro@HartfordBusiness.com.
