A new survey ranks Bradley International Airport as the nation’s third best airfield.

The 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards survey by Condé Nast Traveler magazine drew from 429,000 readers who graded airports on flight choice, food and beverage variety, retail, Wi-Fi availability, fitness options and more.

The survey said Bradley airport, New England’s second-busiest airfield trailing Boston’s Logan International Airport, scored highly due to its rising number of flight choices including Spirit flights to Florida and Aer Lingus flights to Ireland.

On-site parking, charging stations, free Wi-Fi, “decent” restaurant options and an “overall relaxed atmosphere” also supported Bradley’s top three honors.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy credited Bradley’s national recognition to the formation of the  Connecticut Airport Authority, which he says frees the airfield from the “bureaucracy” that has limited its potential in the the past.

The airport authority, led by executive director Kevin Dillon, has made Bradley “more attractive to new routes, new airlines, and new ways to increase our state’s economic viability …,” Malloy said.

Under the rankings, Bradley was only surpassed by Indianapolis International Airport and Portland International Airport. Trailing were Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, Tampa International Airport and Detroit Metro Airport.
