A Chicago-based consultancy has found that a surprising number of Connecticut drivers plan to purchase an electric vehicle as their next car.
Of the 261 Connecticut residents surveyed by West Monroe, 9 percent said it was “extremely likely” and 36 percent said it was “somewhat likely” that their next car purchase or lease would be an electric vehicle.
That’d be a major increase from the 7 percent of Connecticut residents who reported currently owning or leasing an EV.
Of those who said an EV would likely be their next purchase, more than one-third said they are likely to make their next vehicle decision within the next two years.
Nationally, the expectations were even higher, with 59 percent saying an EV purchase was likely.
As of July, there were 10,797 electric vehicles registered with the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.
