Taniqua Huguley founded her company after receiving her bachelor’s degree in sociology and master’s in public policy from Trinity College and conducting research in Trinidad as a U.S. Fulbright scholar. TKH Global Consulting offers Black Girls Achieve (an enrichment program for Black girls), college counseling, grant writing and fellowship and scholarship application assistance services.

Huguley is a recipient of 50 for the Next 50, Hartford’s Finest, 100 Women of Color, and 31 Exceptional Women awards. She is also the director of economic mobility at United Way.

Q: What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far?

My biggest professional accomplishment so far is being able to launch and host Black Girls Achieve in my home neighborhood, Queensbridge Houses. I always dreamed of establishing a youth-centered organization in the neighborhood that shaped my journey. I did not expect it to happen so soon.

Q: What’s the next big goal you want to accomplish professionally?

My next big goal is to host an international exchange program for TKH Global Consulting’s college counseling clients and Black Girls Achieve’s program participants.

Q: What’s one of the biggest professional challenges you’ve overcome?

One of the biggest professional challenges I had to overcome was making sure I brought my full identity and experiences to the workplace. I learned that my identity and experiences were needed in many of the discussions I participated in the classroom and in my professional life.

Q: How has the COVID-19 pandemic forced you to adapt as a leader?

I believe my leadership qualities existed long before the pandemic; I believe it was my leadership qualities that helped me get through the pandemic. COVID forced me to step up and establish Black Girls Achieve, a much-needed resource for Black girls.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?

I like to do things that make me happy and relax. Outside of work, I like to spend time with my family and friends. I love to create new memories through travel. I also like to practice yoga, read and hike.
