A 2015 graduate of American University, Taylor Kinzler began her television career at WABI TV5, the CBS affiliate in Maine, anchoring their evening newscast. She was the youngest female journalist to earn their evening anchor position.

In Maine, Kinzler covered several high-profile murder trials as well as the station’s award-winning 2016 presidential election coverage. In 2018, Kinzler moved to Hartford to pursue a new venture, launching NBC Connecticut’s first morning lifestyle show “CT Live!”

What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?

Being chosen to launch and host NBC Connecticut’s first morning lifestyle show “CT Live!” was a rewarding accomplishment. Knowing the station had enough faith in me to not only lead this team, but also create a brand new show was a huge compliment and testament to the work I had put in while reporting in Maine.

How are you involved in the community?

I began working with the United Way in high school as a volunteer solutions coordinator, matching teens with service opportunities in the community. I also volunteer with Special Olympics, Boys & Girls Village, Leading Ladies CT, and serve as a mentor with Best Buddies.

What do you like to do outside of work?

As a former competitive gymnast, I still love dance and try to exercise and move as often as I can. I am also a foodie, and spend much of my spare time exploring the state searching for the best bites Connecticut has to offer!

How will the coronavirus pandemic change the way you work long term?

Working from home, I immediately began scheduling, shooting, writing and editing all of my own content, while finding creative ways to tell compelling stories from my dining room table. I launched a web series highlighting local restaurants and businesses impacted by COVID-19 and shared ways the community could support them. This experience helped our team relaunch CT Live this month with a renewed focus on the people that make our community so special.

Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty:

• My drive and accomplishments as a young woman in a field historically dominated by men in leading roles.

• The innovation I am bringing to television by shifting my focus to sharing uplifting stories of our neighbors and community.

• Having a platform that allows me to reach large audiences, and using it to empower and uplift others.

• My professional accomplishments leading an award-winning newscast, and launching an entirely new type of programming here in Connecticut.

Fun Fact

In 2012, I won the title of Miss Massachusetts and competed at the Miss America Competition.
