Owners of a franchise Asian-style restaurant are looking to open the state’s first Teriyaki Madness in a vacant Enfield storefront formerly occupied by a hair salon.
Ken Shanke and Meraki Restaurant Group have applied to the Enfield Planning and Zoning Commission for a special permit to transform the vacant 1,380-square-foot former Supercuts space at 7 Hazard Ave., into a Teriyaki Madness fast, casual Asian-style restaurant.
Applicants said Teriyaki Madness is a fast-growing franchise operation with more than 125 locations. It features made-to-order Japanese-inspired teriyaki bowls with fresh ingredients.
According to its website, this would be the first Teriyaki Madness location in Connecticut, with the nearest restaurants now in Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey.
The Enfield location could hold about 20 occupants, for take-out or dine-in service, with five employees per shift. Hours of operation would be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
The small plaza, which also features a fast-service Chipotle Mexican-style restaurant, has adequate parking for the teriyaki restaurant, according to the application.
No site improvements are proposed, only interior remodeling, including a required grease trap, to accommodate a food-service operation since the previous use was a hair salon.
There will be no outdoor seating or dining unless otherwise permitted by the commission.
