A record of 71.7 million people will travel by car over Thanksgiving – 1.3 million more than last year, according to projections from AAA.
Gas prices are lower this Thanksgiving compared to 2023, with the national average currently at $3.06 per gallon. Last Thanksgiving, it was $3.26.
AAA projects that 5.8 million people will fly to their U.S. destinations this year – an increase of 2% from last year.
More than 95,000 passengers are expected to depart from Bradley International Airport during the Thanksgiving holiday, which starts today and continues through Dec. 1, according to the Connecticut Airport Authority.
The busiest days for air travel will be the Saturday and Sunday before and after Thanksgiving.
“We are looking ahead to the start of what is expected to be another busy holiday season for air travel,” said Kevin A. Dillon, executive director of the CAA. “The airport is well prepared to handle the upcoming influx of travelers and is working to ensure that everyone has a smooth journey through Bradley International Airport.”
Travelers are encouraged to arrive at Bradley’s main terminal at least 90 minutes before their scheduled departure time. Peak hours are typically 4 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Traveling by car remains the most popular mode of transportation, by far.
According to INRIX, a provider of transportation data and insights, the worst times to travel by car are Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons before Thanksgiving. The best time is Thanksgiving Day itself.
