When Glastonbury-based SLAM started its wellness program in 1994, it mainly entailed switching from donuts to bagels on casual Friday.

Nearly 20 years later, SLAM's program has evolved to where the firm offers wellness seminars, activities, insurance incentives, ergonomic evaluations, screenings and healthy lifestyle information.

In 2007, SLAM was awarded Wellness Councils of America's Bronze level award, which has been given to firms many times its size.

Employees at all five of SLAM's offices — in Glastonbury, Atlanta, Boston, Syracuse and Los Angeles — can access the firm's online wellness portal, health screenings and videos of wellness seminars. In addition, the program ensures that employees' spouses are able to take advantage of the programs, fitness subsidies and health clinics.
